Yet, it's his unparalleled mastery of gunpowder and fireworks, both tracing their roots back to China's ancient cultural tapestry, that has etched his name into the artistic firmament. This collaboration, however, isn't Cai's first foray into the world of fashion. In 1998, he embarked on a creative journey alongside Issey Miyake, harnessing gunpowder to craft images that, when ignited, seared their indelible mark onto clothing, subsequently transmuted into prints for the iconic Pleats Please line.
This symbiotic venture with Saint Laurent, masterminded by Anthony Vaccarello, materialized as an enchanting celebration of Cai's latest opus.
