The Gucci Twinsburg - The duality of self.

The duality of self was on full display at today's Guuci show from Alessandro Michele. The show was a simultaneous reflection of both the light and dark sides of our personalities, with a focus on the more eccentric elements of fashion that Michele has become known for.

Michele's vision is one of playfulness, and this collection is no exception – it's whimsical and fun, with a touch of darkness that sets it apart from many others on the runway.

The clothes themselves were stunningly beautiful, with an emphasis on texture and detail that made each piece feel unique and special. The palette ranged from muted neutrals to bright pinks and purples, but every color had its place in this collection.

The Twinsburg collection is a reflection of the Gucci brand's relationship to twins. The collection is a study in opposites: it features twins who are as different as night and day, but also identical twins who share an uncanny resemblance.

In one corner of the space, a long runway was constructed from metal traction. The walls were lined with photographic portraits of mirror images of twins. This created an eerie atmosphere that set the tone for the show.

As models entered the room, they walked to specially composed orchestral music that played on repeat throughout the show. An eerie recording of Marianne Faithful’s gravelly voice repeatedly said, “I am me, she is she, identical twins totally, totally opposite identical twins”.

The lights in the room began to dim, and a hush fell over the crowd. The models took their places, each standing tall and proud as they waited for their cue. In a moment they would be bathed in light, their silhouettes projected onto a screen behind them.

As the lights swept seductively over each silhouette, glistening and sparkling on the ‘face jewellery’ draped from the wearer’s eyes or dark sunglasses. A sequined blazer shone under the spotlight, decorated with floral embellishments in contrasting blue. Yes, this was going to be a show like no other.

The Italian designer, known for his eclectic, feminine style, took the fashion world by storm with his latest collection for the brand. The show was themed around ‘80s and ‘90s nostalgia, but it was far from your typical throwback aesthetic. Instead, Michele created a cohesive collection that was playful, bold and had an undeniable sense of luxury.

It was clear that Michele has developed a passion for print as he created an entire runway covered in floral designs. In addition to the vibrant prints on shirts, pantsuits and dresses, there were also some eye-catching accessories such as oversized sunglasses and furry handbags. There were even some unexpected pieces like a ruffled dress in magenta that stood out from the rest of the show because of its bold color choice and unique silhouette which featured puffed sleeves with lace trims around the bottom hemline - something we haven’t seen before from this designer!
